Description August / Ogest
Beet sugar variety August is a nematode-resistant hybrid with a good balance between yield and sugar content. This variety is genetically resistant to leaf and root diseases, making it an optimal choice for crop rotations where sugar beet was previously grown in large volumes. Due to these characteristics, August contributes to increasing production efficiency and reducing crop losses.

Sugar beet is a warm-loving and heat-tolerant crop, with an optimal temperature for growth and development of 20-22°C, although photosynthesis proceeds successfully even at temperatures above 40°C. From the earliest days of its life, the plant requires adequate moisture, especially during the intensive root growth period in July-August. Water deficiency may lead to increased nitrogen content in the roots. Thanks to its well-developed root system, capable of absorbing water from depths up to 2.5 meters, beet can withstand drought. Seeds germinate at temperatures from +4 to +17°C, with emergence time directly dependent on temperature. In autumn, the crop withstands frosts down to -5°C without damage, but lower temperatures may halt sugar accumulation.

In recent years, Russia has seen significant progress in sugar beet cultivation, facilitated by the adoption of modern technologies and new domestic herbicides. This allows farms to eliminate manual labor and increase yields, confirmed by the growth in total root crop harvests. The August variety fits well into these trends, contributing to increased sugar beet production and reduced dependence on imported raw cane sugar.
