FD Judo

FD Judo — mid-season diploid sugar beet hybrid intended for sugar production. The hybrid was registered in the State Register in 2023 and was developed by the French company Florimond Desprez Veuve et Fils. The plant has a vegetative period of approximately 150 days, conical root shape with an oval-conical form and average weight of about 967 grams. The above-ground part of the plant is green, while the root has a white coloration with the head normally positioned above the field surface. FD Judo is characterized by high yield and sugar content potential: average root yield reaches 658 centners per hectare, exceeding standard benchmarks, and sugar harvest amounts to 143 centners per hectare at 22% sugar content. The plant features a medium-sized, dark green, layered rosette and root penetration into the soil of approximately 85%. The hybrid is drought- and cold-resistant, disease- and pest-resistant, as confirmed by the absence of damage during trials, and also exhibits good storability. Recommendations for cultivating FD Judo include growing in all sugar beet cultivation zones, with special emphasis on the Pavlodar region. Sowing can be performed either in autumn under winter conditions or in spring, starting from the moment the soil temperature reaches +10°C at a depth of 10 cm. Autumn sowing in late October to early November allows for an earlier harvest. The hybrid has high plant density and is suitable for intensive sugar production, making it a profitable choice for farmers focused on maximizing productivity and product quality.
