Sugar beet Canyon

Kanyon: A High-Yield Hybrid with Genetic Disease Resistance

In the intensive cultivation of sugar beet, the ability to maintain yield stability in the face of pathogen pressure is the hallmark of a successful crop. The Kanyon hybrid, developed by the Belgian experts at Sesvanderhave Nv/Sa, has established itself as a reliable solution for farmers operating in fields where disease risks are traditionally high.

Built-in Biological Defense

The primary value of the Kanyon hybrid lies in its genetic resistance to Rhizomania, a virus that remains a significant threat to global sugar beet production. By integrating advanced resistance traits, Sesvanderhave has provided growers with a tool that remains productive even on infested soils where other varieties might succumb. Furthermore, the hybrid exhibits significant tolerance to Cercospora leaf spot. This trait is critical in regions with high humidity or fluctuating temperatures, as it allows for a more efficient fungicide application strategy, ultimately reducing the cost of production.

Yield and Development Characteristics

Kanyon is characterized by its large root size, which is a key factor in maximizing gross yield per hectare. From an agronomic standpoint, the hybrid shows excellent seedling vigor, facilitating quick canopy closure. This rapid early development provides an inherent competitive advantage against weeds, leading to a cleaner and more uniform field.

• Manufacturer: Sesvanderhave Nv/Sa (Belgium).
• Category: Sugar Beet.
• Disease Profile: Strong resistance to Rhizomania and tolerance to Cercospora.
