Sorghum VDH 205 is a mid-maturing hybrid of grain sorghum (Sorghum bicolor), recommended for grain production for feed purposes. This variety is included in the State Register for the North Caucasus region and is characterized by medium plant height with absence or very weak anthocyanin pigmentation of seedlings. The panicle is symmetrical, medium length, and very dense, with short, reddish-brown glumes at maturity. The grain is round, elliptical in profile, reddish-brown with fully starchy endosperm. The 1000-grain weight is approximately 27.6 grams.
The variety is distinguished by high yield and is adapted for mechanical harvesting. The maximum yield was recorded in the Krasnodar region and amounted to 61.5 centners per hectare, while the average yield in the region is about 43.9 centners per hectare. The vegetation period lasts approximately 110 days. The plant is low-growing (120-125 cm), with thick stems of 25-30 mm diameter and no branching. The leaves are broad with dark-gray veins, and the panicle is erect, 10-12 cm long. The variety is resistant to head smut, bacterial disease, drought, and lodging, making it a reliable choice for various climatic conditions.
The grain of VDH 205 variety has high quality: protein content is 13.5-13.6%, starch — 69-71%, fat — 3.0-3.1%. The kernels are large, red, half-open, ensuring a high grain extraction rate — 80-85%. All these characteristics make VDH 205 an efficient and promising variety for feed production and agricultural industry.
