Dniprostan sorghum is a medium-early grain sorghum hybrid recommended for cultivation in forest-steppe and steppe zones of Ukraine. This variety was registered in 2006 and developed based on research conducted at the Institute of Grain Husbandry of the Ukrainian Academy of Agricultural Sciences. It is intended for wide-row planting and exhibits high adaptability to various climatic conditions of the region.
Plants reach a height of 120–140 cm and are characterized by high bushiness. Flowering and ripening occur synchronously, facilitating uniform harvest. The grain is large, with a 1000-grain weight ranging from 34 to 42 grams, and has an orange-red color. The grain contains 13.4% protein, 3.2% lysine, and 73.5% starch, making it valuable for both feed and food purposes.
The variety has high yield: grain harvest ranges from 3.9 to 6.2 tons per hectare, and stem mass reaches 17.5–20.0 tons per hectare. The variety is resistant to lodging, drought, shattering, and major diseases, ensuring stable production and grain quality even under adverse agroclimatic conditions.
