Sorghum «Trazerko» – one of the high-yielding sorghum varieties, belonging to domestic breeding. It is characterized by high drought tolerance and heat resistance, making it particularly valuable under conditions of prolonged dry periods. The crop is grown on a wide range of soils with pH from 5.5 to 8.5 and low salt concentration (0.6–0.8%). Sorghum uses 1.5–2 times less water than other grain crops, which increases its economic efficiency.
Successful cultivation of «Trazerko» requires a proper agronomic complex: soil preparation (stalk mulching, plowing), application of herbicides and mineral/organic fertilizers, as well as protection against pests and diseases. An important aspect is maintaining an isolation distance of 250 m for sorghum to avoid cross-contamination. Yield of the variety varies from 1.29 to 2.68 t/ha in Ukraine, reaching up to 5.3 t/ha in European countries.
The «Trazerko» variety is suitable for both grain production and feed purposes. Its grain is rich in proteins, potassium (1000–1080 mg/100 g), magnesium (126 mg/100 g), and iron, making it a valuable component in the food industry. Thanks to its versatility, sorghum can be used for the production of grits, starch, syrups, molasses, as well as raw material for biotechnological processes, including bioethanol and biogas production. This makes «Trazerko» a sought-after product in agriculture and the food industry, ensuring sustainable development with minimal water and energy expenditures.
