Sorghum Bouillet

Practical Management of 'Buyvil' Sorghum

When selecting a forage crop, the priority for any farm operator is how the plant performs during harvest. 'Buyvil' sorghum, developed by the Selection and Genetics Institute, is engineered for efficiency. With a plant height of 70–90 cm, it removes the common headache of managing oversized crops. For the operator, this translates to cleaner cutting, less downtime for mower repairs, and significantly lower losses during the harvesting process.

Operational Performance

• Harvest Efficiency: The 70–90 cm height profile is ideal for standard harvesting machinery. No complex header adjustments are required, allowing for smoother operation and higher daily output.
• Silage Handling: The plant density and leaf-to-stem ratio allow for excellent compaction in silage pits. Proper density is critical for anaerobic fermentation, ensuring your silage remains high-quality and nutrient-rich throughout the storage period.
• Fuel & Logistics: By achieving high yields of green mass per hectare through density rather than height, the equipment spends less time driving across fields. This directly reduces fuel consumption and wear and tear on agricultural machinery.

Managing 'Buyvil' fields is straightforward. This variety is drought-tolerant, meaning you spend less time worrying about irrigation and more time focusing on maximizing throughput during the harvest window. It is a predictable, low-maintenance crop that fits seamlessly into a rotation without requiring specialized equipment upgrades. For operators who value reliability and efficient machinery use, 'Buyvil' provides a balanced, practical solution for high-quality silage and hay production.
