Sorghum is a genus of grasses comprising about 25 species, widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. This crop is cultivated as a grain, forage, and technical crop, possessing a strong root system that provides high drought resistance and enables successful growth on various soil types. Sorghum is used to produce food products, animal feed, biofuel, alcoholic beverages, and other industrial products, making it a versatile and important agricultural crop.
Grain sorghum exhibits significant advantages in physiological, biological, and yield characteristics compared to other crops, especially due to its resistance to stress factors such as water deficit. Nevertheless, the sown areas for sorghum in Ukraine remain limited, primarily due to the lack of cultivar technologies and optimal cultivation methods. Currently, research focuses on studying the effects of seeding rate and row spacing on the formation of sorghum productivity elements.
Moreover, sorghum is a new component in swine rations, possessing technological advantages. However, it contains anti-nutritional substances such as tannins, which affect protein digestibility and absorption. The permissible proportion of sorghum in feed depends on the age groups of animals, so before use, batch analysis of sorghum is required to assess its quality and safety.
