Sorghum variety «Sмотрич» is a medium-maturing, two-colored sorghum variety that demonstrates high productivity under the Right-Bank Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. During studies conducted in 2020–2022, the «Sмотрич» variety showed grain yield at 4.6 t/ha and biomass at 41.2 t/ha, which is among the best results among studied varieties. In terms of grain number per panicle, the «Sмотрич» variety also surpasses the late-maturing variety «Ярона», reaching 1716 grains, and the 1000-grain weight is 30.1 g, indicating grain size and quality.
The studies were conducted using field, measurement-weight, and mathematical-statistical methods, which allowed identifying a strong correlation between grain yield and structural elements of yield. Correlation coefficients ranged from 0.66 to 0.99, and determination coefficients from 0.99 to 1, confirming the reliability of the obtained data and the importance of biometric indicators for forming high productivity of the variety.
Thus, the «Sмотрич» variety is promising for cultivation under unstable moisture conditions of the Right-Bank Forest-Steppe, ensuring high yield and quality grain. Its biometric characteristics and adaptation to local soil-climatic conditions make it an important element of regional agrotechnologies, contributing to effective resource utilization and increased agricultural productivity.
