The sorghum variety «Odessa 333» is a high-yielding grain crop developed at the Selection and Genetics Institute of the Ukrainian Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Odesa. It is distinguished by high agronomic and food value: under optimal conditions, yield reaches 50 ц/ha, and in arid regions – up to 30 ц/ha. The grain is characterized by hardness up to 30 standard units, vitreousness from 85% to 95%, and protein content of 13.5–15%. The variety passed state trials and was included in the register of plant varieties of Ukraine, confirming its stability and reliability.
«Odessa 333» possesses high self-regenerative heterosis and productivity, and is not subject to hybridization. Due to its resistance to diseases and pests, as well as adaptation to arid conditions, it can be successfully cultivated in southern regions of the country. The plant grows easily on various soils, requires minimal agronomic interventions, but if necessary, regular herbicide treatment is recommended to control weeds.
The variety is widely used in agricultural production: «Odessa 333» grain is used in the food industry for the production of flour, bread, confectionery products, cereals, and baby food. In addition, syrup, sweet honey, and syrups are obtained from the stalks, and technical sorghum is used in the production of brooms, paper, and clothing. To achieve maximum yield, it is important to use only proven seed from a reliable supplier, adhering to scientifically-grounded cultivation standards.
