The sorghum variety Dniprovska 54 is early-maturing and intended for cultivation in the steppe and forest-steppe zones of Ukraine. It has been included in the National Register of Plant Varieties since 1999. The plant is tall, reaching heights from 150 to 240 cm depending on conditions and cultivation purpose: when harvested for grain, height is 210-218 cm, and when used for green mass — 170-240 cm. The vegetation period lasts about 90-100 days. Stems are thick with high branching, forming 6-8 leaves per stem. Panicle is long, reaching 25-45 cm, with black or yellowish panicles, grain is elliptical, light-brown, small and membranous. Dniprovska 54 is characterized by high drought and cold resistance, making it especially valuable for cultivation under variable climatic conditions. The variety is multi-cut, with the first cut occurring 45-50 days after emergence, allowing for 2-3 cuts in total. Green mass yield varies from 35 to 60 tons per hectare, while grain yield is 1.5 to 3.8 tons per hectare. High field germination of seeds ensures reliable cultivation and stable yields. Additionally, the variety is widely used for producing brooms and brushes due to its strong and long stems, evidenced by the yield of conditional brooms amounting to 4-5 thousand units per hectare. Stem thickness at the base reaches 1.6-1.9 cm, ensuring necessary strength for household purposes. The Dniprovska 54 variety combines high productivity, resistance to adverse conditions, and versatility of use, making it a profitable choice for agricultural production.
