Sorghum Golubivska 25

Focusing on Forage Yield

«Golubivska 25», developed by the Institute of Grain Crops of the NAAS of Ukraine, is a specialized sorghum variety designed specifically for forage production. Unlike grain-oriented hybrids, this variety prioritizes rapid vegetative growth, making it an essential tool for livestock farms operating in regions with unpredictable rainfall patterns.

Key Characteristics

• Vegetation Period: 90–100 days, allowing for efficient land use and scheduling of harvest.
• Morphology: The plants reach a height of 180–200 cm, ensuring a significant volume of biomass per hectare.
• Application: Strictly designated for hay, silage, and green fodder production.

Strengths and Considerations

The core advantage of «Golubivska 25» is its remarkable resilience. It thrives in drought conditions where crops like corn often struggle, ensuring a consistent feed supply despite temperature spikes. Its dense foliage is a major benefit, as it increases the nutritional value of the hay produced. It is a robust, low-maintenance option for farmers looking to secure feed reserves without excessive irrigation costs.

However, it is vital to remember its purpose: this is not a grain sorghum. Its genetic potential is focused entirely on biomass production; therefore, trying to harvest it for grain is economically inefficient. It is best suited for livestock operations in the southern and central zones of Ukraine that require a reliable, cost-effective source of roughage.
