The «Etrusk» basil variety is an annual warm-weather-loving plant reaching 40–60 cm in height with purple leaves. It possesses an anise-clove aroma and a slightly bitter taste. It contains 1.0–1.5% essential oils, as well as vitamins, carotene, and mineral salts, making it valuable both in cooking and folk medicine.
As a spice, «Etrusk» goes wonderfully with soups, salads, meat and vegetable dishes. Leaves and young shoots can be used fresh or dried; for drying, place them in the shade and store in tightly sealed dark containers. With regular pruning (2–3 times per season), the plant remains compact, and the green yield retains its aroma and nutritional properties.
The variety has bactericidal properties and is used to improve digestion, as well as as an anti-inflammatory remedy. Sowing seeds is done directly into the ground at a spacing of 23–30 × 10–12 cm; the plant roots quickly and grows even at moderate temperatures. Thanks to its hardiness and ease of cultivation, «Etrusk» is an excellent choice for both experienced gardeners and beginners wishing to add fresh aromatic basil to their diet.
