Perekotipole is a perennial herbaceous crop from the genus Centaurea (species Centaurea diffusa Lam.). The plant features upright shoots and a rosette of leaves on young plants; leaves are simple, oval or elliptical with smooth edges. Flowers are white, up to 1 cm in size, gathered in head-like inflorescences, while fruits are dry brown seeds.
The variety 'Perekotipole' belongs to the mid-ripening group and is characterized by a fast transition from flowering to seed maturation (76-79 days to flowering, 154-161 days to full maturity). Green yield at the stage of mass flowering reaches 27-30 t/h, while the mass of a single plant is 280-300 g. Seeds are black, with a density of 1000 pcs - 1.0-1.1 g.
The crop is well adapted to the forest-steppe and Polesie regions of Ukraine, suitable for mechanized production and differs in the attractive appearance of the product. Perekotipole is grown in steppe zones, on rocky outcrops, meadows, and anthropogenic territories, demonstrating a light-loving xerophytic ecosystem.
The variety was developed by the 'Mayak' breeding center of the Institute of Vegetable and Melon Cultivation of the Ukrainian Academy of Agrarian Sciences (IVMC UAAS) and recognized as highly effective in mass production due to high yield, fast maturity, and suitability for mechanized processing.
