The 'Spalah' rosehip variety – the result of work by breeders from the Horticulture Department of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine (NULLE), Vladimir Mezhenskyi and Ljudmyla Mezhenska. This is an interspecific hybrid obtained by crossing the May rosehip and the Webb's rosehip, combining the best properties of both parent varieties.
One of the key features of 'Spalah' is the absence of thorns in the fruiting zone. This makes harvesting more convenient and safe, as the lower parts of the stems are covered with thorns, but they do not hinder work with the fruits. Thanks to such plant structure, they are easily processed manually, which increases harvesting efficiency.
The variety is actively studied by scientists from NULLE of Ukraine within projects on propagation and improvement of characteristics. Currently, work is underway to optimize reproduction methods to ensure stable quality and availability of 'Spalah' for gardeners and producers.
