RVL 9 is a medium-sized clonal rootstock intended for growing cherry and sweet cherry. The bush has an open form, medium-sized shoots that are branching, straight, round, olive-yellow and hairless. Buds are of medium size, recurved, conical and smooth, while leaves are elongated, ovoid, long-tipped, light-green, smooth and matte with delicate vein patterns. Leaves are slightly hairy underneath, curved upwards, with a finely serrated and even margin.
The rootstock is characterized by high winter hardiness, drought tolerance and heat resistance, making it suitable for intensive cultivation technologies of stone fruits. The root system is well-developed and ensures good anchorage of trees without the need for additional support. It roots very well both from green and woody cuttings.
Diseases and pests affect RVL 9 to a very weak degree, and compatibility with various varieties during budding is 78–88% for sweet cherry and 80–95% for cherry. This makes the rootstock a universal choice for gardeners seeking high yield and plant resilience.
