Clonal rootstocks of pear "KA 53" (varietal code 8559193) were developed and registered by the FGBUN "Order of the Labor Red Banner Nikita Botanical Garden-National Research Center RAS". The rootstock is included in the State Register of the Russian Federation, confirming its compliance with quality and safety requirements. It is intended for widespread use in all regions of the country.
"KA 53" is a semi-dwarf rootstock with an upright bush. Shoots are of medium thickness, branching, straight, rounded, brown, and pubescent. Buds are pressed, conical, and smooth. Leaves are of medium size, oblong, short-acuminate, green, slightly crinkled, matte, with medium glossiness on the upper leaf surface; the leaf blade is concave and slightly pubescent. These morphological characteristics ensure good photosynthetic activity and resistance to external factors.
The rootstock is characterized by high winter hardiness, drought tolerance, and heat tolerance, making it suitable for cultivation in various climatic conditions. Rooting ability is high, and resistance to diseases and pests is also high, reducing the need for agrochemical control. During grafting, compatibility with other pear varieties is 94-95%, allowing its use in hybrid programs to obtain fruit-bearing plants with improved characteristics.
