Rootstock ВСЛ-2 (L 2) is the result of hybridization of wild cherry with Lannesiana cherry and is characterized by high compatibility with both sour cherry and sweet cherry. Thanks to its semi-dwarf growth, the trees remain compact, which allows for using them in dense plantings – from 800 to 1000 plants per hectare. The trees begin to bear fruit as early as the third-fourth year after planting and maintain stable yield for 15-18 years.
Key characteristics of the rootstock include resistance to a wide range of diseases: coccomycosis, nematodes, root canker. It grows well on heavy waterlogged soils and possesses a frost-resistant root system, withstanding temperatures down to -14 °C. Drought resistance and lack of suckers make it suitable for various climatic zones.
Propagation of the rootstock is primarily carried out by green cuttings (93.3%) and horizontal layering (72.5%). In nurseries, it demonstrates good rooting ability and retains bark slips for a long time. Maternal plants are capable of producing 2-3 well-developed layers, which allows increasing planting density to 5-6 per linear meter on prepared rich soils. Rootstock L 2 also enhances early fruiting of grafted varieties, accelerating the formation of a fruit bud already in the nursery.
