LC 52 rootstock – the result of joint work by the All-Russian Institute of Horticulture and Nursery Cultures (SSIISP) and the Vavilov All-Russian Institute of Plant Breeding (VNIIR) of Crimea. It was obtained by crossing the Lyubskaya cherry with Michurin's cerapadus, which ensures the tree has medium growth up to 3.5 m in height and a round, dense crown.
The rootstock is characterized by high resistance to various adverse conditions: it withstands dense, waterlogged soils, root rot, cockle, and bacterial canker well. The root system is frost-hardy down to -15 °C, and its drought tolerance allows for use in southern and medium fruit-growing zones. At the same time, it is inferior to some varieties in heat tolerance.
Propagation is carried out using green cuttings with a survival rate of 65–70%. The crowns of trees grafted on this rootstock are compact and well-leafed, and their height is 30–40% less than that of trees grafted on seedlings. The rootstock does not form root suckers and maintains resistance to cockle, which makes it convenient for dense planting (600–800 trees/ha).
