Rootstock M 10

Practical Potential of the M 10 Rootstock

The selection from DalGAU offers orchardists a proven solution for establishing plum orchards: the vegetatively propagated M 10 rootstock. In farm management, the choice of rootstock determines not only the tree's growth rate but also the economic efficiency of the orchard for decades to come.

Agrotechnical Features and Application

M 10 belongs to the category of semi-dwarf rootstocks. It is an optimal choice for those seeking a balance between intensive production and tree stability. Unlike dwarf stocks, which require constant trellis installation and drip irrigation systems, semi-dwarf trees on M 10 are more autonomous, reducing capital expenditures during orchard establishment.

• Entry into Fruiting: Trees grafted onto this rootstock begin productive fruiting within 3-4 years. This is an excellent indicator for commercial orcharding, allowing for a quick return on investment.
• Climatic Adaptation: The rootstock has moderate frost resistance (down to -25°C). It demonstrates stable performance in regions with moderate climates, where extreme winter hardiness is not the primary requirement, but a robust root system is essential.
• Compatibility: The rootstock is specialized for plum cultures. M 10 ensures strong graft union, which is critical for preventing trunk breakage during high-yield seasons or under heavy wind loads.

Using M 10 is recommended for creating medium-density orchards. It adapts well to various soil types while requiring standard care levels typical for stone fruits. Due to the moderate growth vigor, the tree crown is easier to prune, facilitating sanitary maintenance and harvest without the need for specialized lifting equipment.
