Strawberry Jenkka

Enkka: A New Standard for Early Strawberry Production

The Enkka strawberry variety, introduced by the Dutch company Fresh Forward Holding BV in 2025, is designed for professional growers focusing on the early-season market. As a short-day variety, it offers a reliable and high-quality yield, hitting the market when demand for premium berries is at its peak.

Marketability and Post-Harvest Quality

The primary strength of Enkka lies in its exceptional visual appeal and shelf life. The berries are large, uniform in their conical shape, and feature a deep red color with a high-gloss finish. The moderate firmness of the fruit, combined with a strong calyx attachment, ensures that the berries maintain their premium appearance during transport, making them suitable for long-distance distribution.

Usage and Market Positioning

Enkka is primarily intended for the fresh market, including supermarket chains and the HoReCa sector. Its well-balanced flavor profile and attractive presentation make it a top choice for high-end retail. The plant’s open habit and the positioning of the inflorescences at leaf level facilitate efficient harvesting, significantly reducing labor costs and minimizing mechanical damage to the fruit.

Agronomic Performance

The variety demonstrates high genetic resistance to major soil-borne diseases, specifically Phytophthora cactorum and Verticillium wilt. This resilience allows for a reduction in chemical inputs, supporting sustainable farming practices and ensuring the production of high-quality, safe fruit that meets modern consumer standards.
