The winter rapeseed variety 'Black Velvet' is a high-yielding crop adapted for cultivation throughout Ukraine. Plants reach a height of 165–170 cm and are characterized by good branching, forming 7–8 first-order branches. The vegetation period is approximately 292–323 days, making it a medium-late variety. The stem has a round shape with a thickness of 14–17 mm, and the inflorescences are 26–37 cm long racemes with bright yellow flowers. Pods are 8–10 cm long, containing 25–31 seeds of regular spherical shape. Seeds of the 'Black Velvet' variety are distinguished by high purity (99%), similarity, and germination energy at 90–92%. The 1000-seed mass varies from 3.0 to 5.0 grams. Oil content in the seeds reaches 45.5%, with glucosinolate levels at 0.9% and erucic acid at 0.3%. These characteristics make this variety attractive for producing high-quality oil crops. The seeding rate is 85–105 seeds per square meter. The variety exhibits high resistance to lodging, drought, shattering, frost, as well as certain pests and diseases, ensuring stable yields even under adverse conditions. Average yield ranges from 25–45 c/ha, with potential up to 55 c/ha under favorable weather conditions. Due to its high drought tolerance and suitability for mechanized harvesting, 'Black Velvet' is an optimal choice for farmers seeking a high-quality and stable rapeseed harvest.
