Radish Debut

Technical Profile of 'Debut' Radish

The 'Debut' radish is a specialized cultivar resulting from the research conducted by the Federal Scientific Center for Vegetable Production. Diverging from standard short-cycle radishes, 'Debut' operates on a 60–70 day maturation timeline. This extended growth phase is intentionally designed for spring and autumn cultivation cycles, allowing the plant to develop high-mass root vegetables that exceed the standard market weight categories.

Anatomy and Yield Potential

The hallmark of this variety is its capacity to yield roots weighing between 150 and 200 grams. The round shape and vibrant red skin are accompanied by a dense, crisp flesh that resists premature lignification when managed correctly. Due to the significant mass of the root, the variety demands well-aerated, structurally loose soils, which facilitate unimpeded radial expansion and optimal nutrient uptake.

Phytopathological Resilience

The genetic architecture of 'Debut' is engineered to withstand severe biotic stresses common in intensive cultivation environments:

• Fungal Pathogen Resistance: The cultivar exhibits robust resistance to Fusarium wilt and Verticillium wilt, making it suitable for soil profiles prone to pathogen accumulation.
• Alternaria Defense: Its genetic resistance to Alternaria blight ensures that the plant remains healthy under high-humidity conditions, common in autumn growing cycles.

This technical resilience translates into practical operational benefits: producers can achieve consistent yields with a lower reliance on chemical fungicides, maintaining high commercial quality standards throughout the extended 70-day harvest window.
