The "Maria" pear variety is a medium-ripening, self-fertile cultivar developed at the National Botanical Garden of Ukraine. The tree features a compact, rounded canopy and reaches a height of 2.5–3 meters. It exhibits high cold hardiness, disease resistance, and drought tolerance, making it suitable for cultivation in regions with cold winters and variable climatic conditions. It is recommended to plant on sunny sites, protected from wind, with a spacing of 3x4 meters between plants and planting holes measuring 60x60x60 cm. Fruit production begins on the 4th year after planting.
The "Maria" pear fruits are large, apple-shaped, with dense yellow skin and creamy, juicy flesh possessing a tangy-sweet flavor and pleasant aroma. The average fruit weight ranges from 300–400 grams, with individual fruits reaching 500–800 grams. The flesh does not darken upon cutting, indicating its high quality. Fruits ripen in early October and, under proper storage conditions, can be kept until February, ensuring a prolonged harvest period.
The variety has high and stable yield: one mature tree can produce 50–70 kilograms of fruit. Due to its cold hardiness and disease resistance, "Maria" pear requires minimal maintenance, making it an attractive choice for both private gardens and commercial plantations. This variety combines excellent taste, decorative appeal, and practicality, making it a popular choice among gardeners.
