Kuban harvest is a medium-sized tree with a sprawling, not dense crown, reaching a height of about 3.5 meters. The beautiful crown shape and dark gray straight shoots create a harmonious appearance. Leaves are obovate, green in color with a yellowish tinge, slightly pubescent underneath; they ensure good photosynthesis and resistance to adverse conditions.
Kuban quince fruits are large, pear-shaped, weighing up to 300 grams. Upon full ripening, their skin becomes smooth, oily, yellowish-green with a bright orange tint; the pubescence is easily rubbed off, and in a ripe state the fruits are almost without it. The flesh is creamy, dense and juicy, with a sweet-sour taste, which makes it suitable for both fresh consumption and making jam, compotes and other preserves.
The variety is characterized by high yield: by the 8th summer, up to 200 kg/hectare can be collected from the tree. Fruits stay on the tree for a long time, do not fall prematurely, and with proper care give stable yields of 50 to 90 kg from one adult plant. Moreover, Kuban quince has good transportability and retains its taste qualities for 60-80 days after harvest.
Climate requirements: the tree is winter-hardy, resistant to frost and drought, and is also protected from fungal diseases. Self-pollination allows it to be grown without neighboring pollinators, although the presence of other varieties can increase yield. For optimal growth, annual pruning is recommended, as fruits are formed on the previous year's growth.
Nutritional value: fruits contain 15.6% soluble dry matter, 9.8% sugars, 1.0% titrated acids, and 35.8 mg/100 g of ascorbic acid. Active catechins reach 156.8 mg/100 g of raw mass, making Kuban quince a valuable source of antioxidants.
