Gleisdorf Yolkerbis is a variety of naked-seeded pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo L.), known for its unique seeds that do not require cleaning and are widely used for producing high-quality pumpkin oil. The seeds have a dark color ranging from dark green to black, which is due to the high chlorophyll content. They are rich in antioxidants, unsaturated fatty acids, carotenoids, vitamin E, micro- and macroelements such as zinc, iron, magnesium, and potassium, as well as pectin, sugars, and vitamin C. Due to this, the seeds and oil from them possess not only culinary value but also beneficial therapeutic properties used in pharmacy.
For growing Gleisdorf Yolkerbis, it is recommended to use pneumatic precision seeders with row spacing of 70 cm and seed burial depth of 3-4 cm at soil temperature +10...+12°C. Care of the crop includes inter-row treatment and application of herbicides, as well as application of mineral fertilizers at a rate of N80P120K180 to ensure a high yield. Harvesting is carried out using special combines that crush the fruits and separate the seeds, while the pulp remains in the field as a cover crop fertilizer. After harvesting, the seeds undergo additional cleaning and drying.
Pumpkin oil from Gleisdorf Yolkerbis seeds differs in dark green color and has a nutty aroma, is a valuable source of zinc, and is widely used in cooking - in marinades, salad dressings, and pasta sauces, as well as in the confectionery industry for making sweets. The plant is light-loving, so to obtain large, sweet, and well-ripened fruits, it is recommended to plant it in well-lit areas, which also contributes to long-term storage of the crop.
