Pumpkin Fonar

Reliability in traditional pumpkin cultivation

The «Fonar» (Lantern) pumpkin variety is the result of focused breeding efforts by the Federal Scientific Center for Vegetable Growing and the «Poisk» agricultural firm. As a stable variety rather than a hybrid, it represents the Russian tradition of creating crops that provide consistency, which is highly valued in both home gardening and small-scale farming.

Key characteristics

«Fonar» is an annual crop characterized by its classic, round fruit shape. Developed under the guidance of breeders including Maria Petrovna Miroshnikova, the variety stands out for its genetic stability. Unlike commercial hybrids, this variety allows growers to harvest their own seeds, maintaining the plant's essential traits across generations.

Market position and utility

In the current market, «Fonar» occupies a niche for those who prioritize predictability and storage quality. The rounded fruits are robust, making them easy to handle and transport. Their culinary versatility, combined with excellent keeping qualities, ensures that the variety remains a relevant choice for winter storage and diverse cooking applications. It is a preferred variety for growers who rely on tested genetics rather than the variable performance of first-generation hybrids.
