Pumpkin Ferro

Stable yields in challenging environments

Dutch breeding by Rijk Zwaan consistently sets the benchmark for quality in vegetable production, and the "Fero" pumpkin is a prime example. Amidst climate volatility and unpredictable soil pathogen levels, this hybrid serves as a reliable asset for professional farmers focused on marketability and long-term storage.

Plant health as the foundation of profitability

The core advantage of "Fero" lies in its genetic resilience. While many varieties struggle against soil-borne pathogens, this hybrid demonstrates superior resistance to a complex range of critical diseases:

• Verticillium and Fusarium: Crucial traits that allow cultivation on fields with a high disease pressure, significantly reducing the risk of premature plant collapse.
• Pythium: Specific resistance to pathogens that attack the root system under excessive moisture conditions—a common weak point for cucurbits.
• Rots: The dense flesh structure and inherent plant vigor minimize the risk of tissue degradation upon contact with soil.

Market potential and logistics

"Fero" produces uniform, consistent fruits weighing 3–5 kg. This weight bracket is widely regarded as the "gold standard" for retail chains and supermarkets: such pumpkins are easy to transport, optimize shelf space, and are perfectly sized for a single culinary purchase. Exceptional storage life allows farmers to bypass immediate post-harvest sales, enabling them to wait for more favorable market conditions during the winter months when the supply of high-quality produce dwindles.

Why choose "Fero"?

This hybrid is the preferred choice for growers who prioritize reduced fungicide reliance and crop longevity. Whether you are operating in high-risk regions prone to fungal outbreaks or planning long-term storage without the luxury of climate-controlled facilities, "Fero" outperforms most alternatives through its natural robustness and consistent fruit sizing.
