Description Oksamit 99
Potato variety Oksamit-99 was created by hybridization of varieties (Slava × Guardsman) × Sagitta and registered in 2002. This mid-late potato variety has a vegetation period from planting to complete withering of foliage of 110–120 days. Plants are upright and tall, with straight, unbranched stems and medium-sized dark green leaves with slight pubescence. Flowers have a red-purple hue. Tubers are oval-shaped, with smooth red skin, small eyes mostly located at the apex. Flesh is delicately cream-colored, close to white. Oksamit-99 variety is characterized by high yield — from 34.8 to 45.0 tons per hectare, with marketable yield of 31.5–43.2 tons per hectare, and marketability reaching 95–96%. Average mass of marketable tubers ranges from 110–115 grams. A key feature is high content of dry matter (20.3–21.5%) and starch (13.5–14.8%), making this variety high-starch and suitable for various culinary purposes. Taste qualities are rated at 7.8 points; the potato is slightly firm and mostly does not break down, allowing its use in various dishes. Oksamit-99 is drought-resistant and does not require special growing conditions, although it positively responds to fertilizer application. The variety exhibits high resistance to common potato diseases: common type of late blight, vegetative mass phytophthora, macrosporiosis, as well as black and common scab and tuber phytophthora. Thanks to these qualities and adaptability to various climatic zones of Ukraine — Polissia, forest-steppe and steppe — this variety is widely used both in home and industrial cultivation.
