NORTHERN

The potato variety 'Northern' is an early-maturing table variety of Russian breeding, intended for cultivation in the regions of Eastern and Western Siberia. Plants of this variety have medium height and semi-erect growth habit, with medium-sized green leaves. Tubers are oval-round in shape with small eyes, colored yellow both in skin and flesh. The weight of marketable tubers ranges from 100 to 212 grams, with starch content of 13.8–14.4%, ensuring good taste qualities and versatility in cooking, including soups, salads, and frying. 'Northern' is characterized by high yield, ranging from 188 to 457 centners per hectare, with maximum yields reaching 467 centners. The first harvest can be taken as early as the 45th day after emergence, when the yield reaches 170–312 centners per hectare, matching or exceeding the standards of other early varieties. The second harvest is conducted on the 55th day, with a yield of 359–448 centners per hectare. Tubers' marketability ranges from 87–98%, and storability reaches 94%, ensuring long-term storage without quality loss. The variety exhibits high resistance to several diseases, including potato cancer, phytophthora, golden potato cyst nematode, and mosaic diseases (striped and wrinkled). These characteristics make 'Northern' a reliable choice for farmers aiming to obtain a stable and high-quality yield under Siberian climate conditions.
