Description RED HABANERO
Red Habanero pepper is a late-maturing variety of one of the world's spiciest peppers, widely grown both in open fields and in polytunnels. The plant reaches a height of 60 to 90 centimeters, has upright stems and a spreading, lightly leafed form. The fruits are small, about 3-5 centimeters long, with characteristic strong ridges and a shape ranging from rectangular to cylindrical. As they ripen, they change color from green to bright red, have thin flesh, and weigh approximately 20-30 grams. The fruits contain 2-3 chambers, and their surface resembles small lanterns, making them a decorative addition to gardens or windowsills. This variety is exceptionally spicy, with Scoville heat units ranging from 100,000 to 577,000, making it dozens of times spicier than regular jalapeño. In addition to its heat, Red Habanero has a unique fruity and floral aroma with citrus notes that develop fully as the fruit ripens. Due to these qualities, this pepper is widely used in culinary applications for making spicy sauces, salsas, savory dishes, as well as in spice production, jellies, chocolate, and even alcoholic beverages. When dried and ground into powder, it retains its apricot aroma and intense flavor. Growing Red Habanero requires a warm climate and a long vegetative period — from 75 to 105 days until full maturity. Sowing seeds is recommended in late February to early March, followed by transplanting when the plant has 1-2 true leaves, and planting in the ground in late May or early June. When cultivating, avoid planting near sweet pepper varieties to prevent cross-pollination and flavor alteration. When handling fruits, take precautions: wear gloves and avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes, as the pepper’s spiciness is very high. Red Habanero is suitable for both professional and home cultivation, including indoor conditions.
