GOLDEN ALTAY

The "Golden Altay" pepper variety is a mid-early maturing variety developed by the Western Siberian Vegetable Experimental Station. The plant is compact and medium-height — from 45 to 55 cm — making it convenient for cultivation both in open ground and in plastic greenhouses. The fruits have a conical or round-flat shape, bright yellow color when fully ripe, weighing from 89 to 200 grams and with a wall thickness of 6 to 11 mm. The flesh is juicy, tender, with excellent flavor and aroma, making this variety versatile for fresh consumption, salads, and canning, as well as convenient for stuffing.

The variety is characterized by high yield: in open ground, it yields about 3.1 kg per square meter, while under plastic coverings it reaches 6.7 kg per square meter. With proper care and cultivation, the yield can reach 42–65 tons per hectare. The pepper is resistant to low temperatures and prefers sunny spots with light, fertile neutral soils. It is recommended to plant after carrots, cabbage, beets, legumes, and cucurbits.

Cultivation is done by seedlings: seeds are sown in February into seed trays with soil mix at a depth of no more than 1 cm, then the trays are covered with plastic or glass and placed in a warm location at 23–25°C for germination. Seedlings are transplanted into open ground in early June with a spacing of 40x40 cm. The pepper prefers infrequent but abundant watering with warm water and responds well to nitrogen fertilizers, which promotes the formation of large, juicy fruits.
