Slonovo uho pepper is a medium-late maturing sweet pepper variety of Serbian selection, known for its large and meaty fruits. The vegetation period is 90-100 days from transplanting seedlings, and 120-130 days from sowing. The plant is robust, tall, reaching about 70 cm in height, and does not require pruning or staking. The fruits have an irregular conical shape, length reaching 20 cm, diameter up to 12 cm, and weight ranging from 150 to 250 grams. Inside, the pepper contains 2-3 chambers, and the wall thickness is 6-8 mm. Fruit color changes from dark green to cherry-red or orange upon full ripening.
This variety is distinguished by high yield — 2-3 kg of fruit can be harvested per plant, and yield per 100 square meters reaches 600-1000 kg. The pepper is resistant to various diseases, including tomato mosaic virus, and tolerates stressful conditions such as temperature fluctuations, drought, hail, and wind damage. Due to its resilience, Slonovo uho can be successfully grown in open ground, under plastic covers, in greenhouses, and cold frames, except in regions with risky agriculture and extreme north.
The fruits of this pepper have a pleasant taste and aroma, making them versatile for use. They are consumed fresh in salads and used for preparing various dishes, processing, canning, and freezing. Additionally, the pepper contains a high amount of beta-carotene, enhancing its nutritional value and health benefits.
