Peony Cheburashka

Early-blooming aesthetics for professional landscaping

The ‘Cheburashka’ peony, developed by the M.M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden in Ukraine, is a premier choice for landscaping projects that require a vibrant display during the early spring season. Blooming between May 15 and 30, this variety serves as a distinct visual anchor when most perennials are still in their early vegetative stage.

Practical application and horticultural utility

Distinguished by its simple flower structure and striking red-crimson petals, ‘Cheburashka’ is widely utilized in professional gardening and private estate management for the following purposes:

• Garden bed accents: The intense petal color functions as an excellent focal point when contrasted against the green foliage of perennial shrubs or ornamental conifers.
• Sun-drenched landscape borders: Being highly sun-loving, the variety thrives in open, exposed locations where light-sensitive plants might struggle.
• Low-maintenance plantings: Due to the sturdy nature of its stems, the plant maintains its structure without the need for additional staking, making it an efficient choice for large-scale landscaping.

For optimal performance, it is recommended to plant this variety in well-drained, sunny locations. Proper site selection is crucial to ensure that the early blooming cycle is fully realized. Given its origin, the variety is well-adapted to the local climate, requiring minimal intervention once established. Simple spring mulching and early-season potassium-phosphorus fertilization are sufficient to maintain the vigor and color intensity of the blooms year after year.
