Peony Julia

A Breeding Triumph from Lomonosov Moscow State University

The 'Julia' peony represents a hallmark of botanical expertise from the MSU Faculty of Biology. As an Itoh hybrid (the intersectional result of crossing herbaceous and woody peonies), this variety combines the architectural beauty of tree peonies with the seasonal reliability and frost resistance of herbaceous perennials.

Visual and Structural Excellence

The defining feature of 'Julia' is its stunning color palette, which blends soft pink, warm coral, and radiant yellow tones. The semi-double blooms, reaching up to 25 cm in diameter, maintain their integrity throughout the peak blooming season (May 31 – June 15). Unlike many large-flowered varieties, the stems on 'Julia' are remarkably sturdy, eliminating the need for complex support systems.

Key Advantages for Gardeners

• Disease Resistance: Developed for high durability, this hybrid shows exceptional resilience against common threats like powdery mildew and gray mold (Botrytis).
• Hardiness: With a cold tolerance reaching -30°C, it is well-suited for diverse climates without requiring extensive winter protection.
• Versatility: Ranging in height from 70 to 90 cm, it serves as an excellent focal point in landscape design or as a standout specimen in a mixed perennial border.

For gardeners seeking a balance of aesthetic grandeur and low-maintenance care, 'Julia' is a premier choice. Its foliage remains lush and attractive well beyond the blooming period, providing a structural anchor in the garden from spring until the first frosts. This hybrid is the optimal solution for those who demand show-quality flowers without the intensive labor typically associated with heritage cultivars.
