Onion Joaquin

Field Strategy for the Joakin Hybrid

Amidst the climate volatility of 2025, where temperature swings have become the new normal, the new Joakin onion hybrid from Nunhems B.V. offers growers much-needed predictability. Officially registered in Ukraine in 2025, this American-bred F1 hybrid is valued primarily for its ability to maintain productivity in conditions where other varieties struggle.

Stress and Pathogen Resistance

Joakin demonstrates high adaptability to extreme temperatures. In field trials, the hybrid showed excellent resilience during drought periods: its robust root system efficiently accesses moisture from deeper soil layers, minimizing growth stagnation during peak heat. A significant advantage is its genetic resistance to a complex of common onion diseases, which reduces the need for intensive fungicide applications.

Cultivation Efficiency

• Foliage Lodging: The hybrid is characterized by uniform and timely foliage lodging, which is critical for mechanical harvesting and the formation of a high-quality neck.
• Growing Zones: Due to its plasticity, Joakin is suitable for cultivation across all major agro-climatic zones of Ukraine, including southern regions with a high risk of soil overheating.
• F1 Stability: The F1 technology ensures uniformity of the marketable bulb, simplifying sorting and increasing the yield of premium-grade produce.

Choosing Joakin is an investment in technology and risk mitigation in a changing climate. The hybrid does not merely endure stress; it continues to develop its yield while maintaining excellent marketability and storage potential.
