SPANISH MEDAILON F1 is an extra-early hybrid of Spanish-type onion, developed by the Japanese company Sakata Seed. It is characterized by high yield, reaching up to 80-130 tons per hectare, achievable through various planting methods—both direct sowing and via seedlings. The maturation period is 80-90 days, allowing for an early harvest. The bulbs have an oval shape with a thin neck, weighing between 120 and 250 grams, covered by a dense, glossy bronze-brown outer skin. The internal onion scales are thick, crunchy, and juicy, with a mild and delicate flavor, making this onion in demand for both fresh market and culinary use. The hybrid plants feature compact foliage, which promotes quick and high-quality drying of the onion after lodging. The hybrid is undemanding in terms of agricultural technology, adapts well to various soil types and climatic conditions, and possesses intermediate resistance to Fusarium and pink root rot. To achieve maximum yield, balanced nutrition with a nitrogen to potassium ratio of 1:1.5 is recommended, as well as calcium fertilization in the last 20-30 days of vegetation.
