Onion Delikates

Maximizing yield with Delikates Shallot

The 'Delikates' shallot variety, developed by the Federal Scientific Center for Vegetable Growing, is a top choice for growers aiming for premium-grade bulbs and superior shelf life. By focusing on agronomic efficiency and consistent harvest cycles, this variety provides a reliable return for both small-scale farms and professional produce suppliers.

Operational focus and farm application

• Harvesting Strategy: Designed specifically for manual harvesting, this variety ensures that individual bulbs remain intact, which is critical for preventing rot and maintaining premium quality during winter storage.
• Production Planning: With a maturation window of 90–100 days, growers can efficiently schedule their planting and harvesting operations to avoid peak moisture stress and ensure optimal bulb density.
• Market Value: Averaging 80–90 grams per bulb, the 'Delikates' shallot hits the 'sweet spot' for weight, making it highly desirable for culinary retailers and professional kitchens.

In the field, the variety is noted for its adaptability and steady development. Effective cultivation relies on consistent inter-row maintenance and careful moisture regulation as the bulb approaches its mature weight. By managing these stages correctly, agricultural businesses can produce uniform, high-sugar shallots that command a better price in the marketplace. Whether you are aiming for early greens or mature bulbs, this variety offers the flexibility to pivot between tasks based on immediate market demand.
