The shallot variety SIR 7 was bred at the Siberian Institute of Plant Research and Breeding and is intended for cultivation in open ground and under film. This variety is characterized by an early maturity period: about 34 days from the emergence of full seedlings to harvest for green tops, and 53–71 days until complete leaf lying down. The bulbs have an oval-flat shape with a downward taper, are dense and large, weighing from 24 to 29 grams. The dry skins are colored golden-yellow with a pink tint, while the juicy parts have a greenish hue. The taste of the onion is sharp with a bright aroma, making it versatile for use both as green tops and as a root crop. The yield of the SIR 7 variety is 2.6–3.0 kg per square meter, indicating high productivity. However, the variety has low resistance to diseases, in particular false powdery mildew, neck rot, and bacterial bulb rot, which requires careful care and preventive measures during cultivation. Despite this, the variety is popular due to its taste qualities and the ability to grow in various regions of Russia, including the Middle Volga, Ural, and West Siberia. The shallot SIR 7 is suitable for cultivation in the central region and other regions of the country, making it a universal choice for gardeners and farmers. The package usually contains 10 bulbs, which is convenient for planting and further cultivation. Due to its characteristics and taste qualities, this variety is an excellent option for those who value early and high-quality shallot crops.
