Field Management of the 'Mezhsezonye' Shallot

When selecting shallot varieties for commercial production, the balance between shelf life and marketable quality is critical. Developed by the Federal Scientific Center for Vegetable Growing, 'Mezhsezonye' offers a storage capability of 9–10 months, making it a standout choice for long-term supply chains. In field conditions, the variety demonstrates consistent results with yields reaching up to 50 tons per hectare.

Operational Handling and Harvesting

The bulbs, weighing 80–100 grams, are ideally suited for the fresh market. Their size allows for efficient retail packaging and consistent presentation. A key operational factor is the mandatory manual harvest: producers must account for labor requirements during the maturation phase. However, the premium quality and shelf stability easily justify the labor costs associated with manual gathering.

• Shelf Life: exceptional storage potential of up to 10 months, drastically reducing post-harvest losses.
• Bulb Uniformity: consistent 80–100g bulbs, ideal for high-end retail requirements.
• Yield: achieves up to 50 tons/ha with proper agronomic input.

Maintenance is standard for shallot crops, but 'Mezhsezonye' responds particularly well to intensive cultivation methods. It exhibits robust plant health, characteristic of the Center's breeding program, providing good stress resilience. If you need a reliable variety that bridges the gap between seasons while maintaining quality, this shallot is a dependable asset for any vegetable operation.
