Onion OKKES

Targeting the Processing Industry

The «Okkes» onion hybrid, developed by the Turkish breeder Bayram Tohum, is engineered specifically for commercial scale processing. In an environment where operational efficiency dictates profitability, this variety offers the consistent geometry and structural integrity required for automated peeling and slicing equipment.

Field Performance and Characteristics

Classified as a long-day variety, Okkes thrives in regions with extended daylight hours, resulting in uniform, round bulbs that minimize waste in industrial lines. The light-brown outer skin provides sufficient protection during mechanical harvesting, while the white flesh ensures that the final processed product maintains a high-quality appearance required for wholesale and retail markets.

Operational Strategy

Choosing Okkes is a strategic decision for growers supplying produce to the processing sector. With a storage life of 4–5 months, it fits perfectly into the production cycle, allowing facilities to process the bulk of the harvest before the spring season. This makes it a preferred choice for:

• Manufacturers of dehydrated vegetable mixes.
• Producers of canned goods and frozen vegetable lines.
• Commercial kitchens requiring high-volume prep-ready raw materials.

By prioritizing the "Okkes" hybrid from Bayram Tohum, producers ensure that their input consistency remains high throughout the storage window, directly influencing the efficiency of the final processing stage.
