Onion LUKICH

Agronomic Profile of the «Lukich» Onion

«Lukich» is an onion variety developed by Elizaveta Romanovna Kudryavtseva, specifically targeted at the salad onion market. Its distinctive elliptical bulb shape and delicate flavor profile make it a competitive choice for growers supplying high-end retail and the HoReCa sector.

Operational Use and Farming Strategy

• Market Positioning: With its white flesh and mild flavor, «Lukich» is positioned as a gourmet salad onion. It caters to consumers who prefer a less pungent experience, making it a valuable addition to any crop rotation aimed at fresh market sales.
• Post-Harvest Handling: The light-brown outer scales provide sufficient durability for storage and logistics. The bulb's shape simplifies sorting and packaging processes, which is essential for large-scale production efficiency.
• Field Management: Success with this variety requires attention to soil aeration. Given the elliptical geometry of the bulbs, consistent moisture management is key to ensuring uniformity, which in turn reduces culling rates during post-harvest grading.

For agricultural businesses, «Lukich» serves as a strategic asset for filling the salad onion niche. By optimizing for this variety, growers can provide a consistent, high-quality product that meets the specific demands of both professional kitchens and health-conscious retail shoppers.
