RED SALAD ONION

Red salad onion variety Red Baron is a mid-to-early maturing variety of Dutch origin, intended for cultivation in open ground. The vegetative period ranges from 108 to 130 days, allowing for harvest within a single season. The plant is characterized by a powerful root system and good growth strength, ensuring resistance to various climatic conditions, including spring frosts and prolonged drought. The bulbs have a rich bright red coloration with purple dry scales and juicy white-purple inner layers, possessing a semi-sharp taste.

Red Baron onion is distinguished by high yield — from 3 to 6 kg per square meter with proper care, including adherence to crop rotation, regular watering, thinning, and application of complex fertilizers. The bulbs are small, elongated, up to 10-12 cm in length and 50-65 g in weight, of medium density and good uniformity. The variety is resistant to diseases such as fusarium, downy mildew, root and pink rots, which significantly facilitates its cultivation and improves harvest quality.

This variety is ideal for preparing salads, buffet appetizers, and canned vegetable mixes, as it does not stain knives or other ingredients. The onion stores well under conditions of a cool, dry, and dark place, maintaining its taste qualities and appearance. To obtain larger bulbs, it is recommended to grow via seedlings, and sowing in open ground is carried out at the end of April – beginning of May to a depth of 1-1.5 cm with 5 x 20 cm row spacing.
