Hielo onion is a high-yielding winter bulb onion variety developed by breeders of Bejo Zaden from the Netherlands. The plant features vigorous growth and active development during winter, ensuring high productivity and resilience to adverse climatic conditions, including frost without snow cover. Maturation period is approximately 248-280 days, allowing early harvest as early as May-June. The onion is resistant to viral diseases, bolting, and splitting, significantly improving the quality and stability of the harvest.

Hielo onion bulbs have a round shape and dense structure. The outer scale varies from yellow-brown to golden hue, while the inner flesh is snowy white, thick, and crisp. The variety is characterized by a pleasant flavor with a mild sweetness, abundant juice, and strong aroma. Thanks to these qualities, the onion is suitable for both fresh consumption and thermal processing. It is versatile in culinary use and processing.

Hielo variety is intended for cultivation in open ground. Seed sowing is recommended in the second half of August with an optimal density of 0.9-1.0 million seeds per hectare. The onion retains its nutritional and commercial qualities for several months, has high transportability, and is suitable for mechanical harvesting. These characteristics make it popular for fresh market sales and long-term storage.
