Onion ANDRUSHKA

Professional Choice for Long-Term Storage: 'Andryushka' Onion

For agricultural producers focusing on long-term storage and high-quality red onions, the 'Andryushka' hybrid from the 'Heterosis Breeding' (Гетерозисная селекция) company offers a robust production solution. This bulb onion hybrid provides agronomic predictability, with a maturation period of up to 90 days, allowing for precise harvest planning even in regions with shorter growing seasons.

Field Application and Performance

The primary value of this hybrid lies in its combination of early maturity and exceptional shelf life. In commercial settings, 'Andryushka' demonstrates significant advantages:

• Yield Uniformity: The hybrid nature ensures consistent bulb size and shape, which streamlines post-harvest processing, sorting, and packaging.
• Storage Technology: The standout feature is its storage potential of 9–10 months, enabling farmers to bypass seasonal price drops and supply the market during peak winter and spring demand.
• Marketable Aesthetics: A deep red skin color and dense internal structure make this onion highly attractive to retail chains where product presentation is a priority.

When moving into storage, the genetics of this hybrid allow the bulbs to retain density and flavor without significant weight loss for up to 300 days, provided proper climate control is maintained.

Economic Impact

Using 'Andryushka' is highly recommended for farms that utilize automated mechanical harvesting and drying facilities. Because of its sturdy outer scales, the hybrid is less susceptible to mechanical damage during harvest, reducing the risk of storage rot. This is a variety tailored for producers seeking the optimal balance between an early market entry and the ability to hold inventory for long-term profit.
