Stable yields of red onion: The «Vishnevy SAD» profile

In the salad onion market, the «Vishnevy SAD» variety holds a strong position due to its high adaptability to climatic conditions. Developed by the «Heterosis Selection» team in collaboration with «Vashe Khozyaystvo» and «Agrofirma Mars», this variety addresses the demand for a crop that combines premium salad taste profiles with exceptional storage longevity.

Agronomic potential and specifications

«Vishnevy SAD» is a mid-late maturing variety with a growing cycle of 120 to 130 days. The primary focus is on productivity: under proper agronomic management, yields consistently exceed 100 tons per hectare, making it highly sought after in professional vegetable production.

• Type: bulb onion for the salad segment.
• Color: deep, saturated red hue for both the skin and internal scales.
• Shape: classic round, optimized for mechanical harvesting and retail packaging.

Storage and commercial value

The defining feature that distinguishes this variety from other red onions is its remarkable shelf life. In specialized storage facilities, «Vishnevy SAD» maintains its market quality and taste for 9–10 months. This allows growers to avoid selling produce immediately «from the field» during low-price seasonal windows and instead manage sales efficiently through late spring.

The breeding of this variety emphasized bulb density, which minimizes transport losses. The taste profile—noted for its mildness and lack of excessive pungency—makes it a favorite in the HoReCa segment as well as in retail chains, where consumers increasingly prefer red onion for fresh salads.
