Spring oat variety «Yakov» is a mid-season hulled grain variety with a vegetative period of 82-95 days. It is characterized by high resistance to lodging and drought, making it suitable for cultivation in various climatic conditions. The plant is medium-sized with a two-sided ear and large grain, possessing good threshability. The mass of 1000 grains is 34-42 grams, while grain natural content varies from 430 to 570 g/l. Protein content in the grain is within 11.9-12.8%, ensuring high crop quality.
The «Yakov» variety was bred by individual selection from a hybrid population involving foreign varieties and breeding lines, which ensured high yield and resistance to adverse factors. It is free from infection by loose smut and possesses relatively high drought resistance, surpassing other oat varieties in this indicator. During state trials, the variety showed a yield of up to 82.6 centners/hectare, while average indicators in various regions of Russia range from 39.3 to 45.0 centners/hectare.
Due to its characteristics, the «Yakov» variety is successfully used not only for grain production but also for cultivation in mixtures with pulse crops for green fodder, hay, and silage. It is suitable for various agro-technical conditions, while sowing rates, sowing dates, and fertilizer application correspond to those generally accepted for oats. The variety has high ear graininess and resistance to grain shedding, which facilitates harvesting and improves crop quality.
