Description

The Volzhaniin 50 chickpea variety is a mid-season, large-seeded variety obtained by individual selection from a hybrid population created by crossing the Volgogradskiy 10 variety with a large-seeded sample from Syria. The variety's vegetative period ranges from 65 to 103 days; flowering occurs on the 26th to 34th day, and physiological maturity is reached 49-54 days after flowering begins. The seeds are oval with a beak-like tip, large and uniform, with a 1000-seed mass ranging from 274 to 372 grams, significantly exceeding standard variety indicators. Protein content in the grain reaches up to 26%, making this variety valuable in terms of quality.

Volzhaniin 50 is distinguished by its high resistance to lodging, shattering, and drought, confirmed by 5-point ratings for these indicators. The variety also possesses good resistance to diseases and pests at the level of the standard, ensuring crop stability in various climatic conditions. Average yield in the Lower Volga region reaches 15.0 centners per hectare, while in variety trials on various soils, including chernozem and light chestnut soils, the variety consistently outperformed the standard in yield, exceeding it by 0.43-0.50 tonnes per hectare.

Due to its characteristics, Volzhaniin 50 is widely used for chickpea cultivation in various regions, including the Central Black Earth, North Caucasus, Middle Volga, Lower Volga, and Ural regions. Large, high-quality seeds with high protein content make this variety attractive for agricultural production and culinary use. High adaptability and resistance to adverse conditions allow for obtaining stable and high yields, making Volzhaniin 50 a cost-effective choice for farmers and agronomists.
