Chickpea variety «Kulundinsky 5» is a mid-season grain legume of the legume family with a vegetative period of 90-102 days. The plant is tall, reaching 40-61 cm in height, with a semi-upright bush. Leaves are of medium size, flowers are white, and seeds have an oval shape and beige color. The mass of 1000 seeds varies from 239 to 302 grams. The variety is distinguished by high resistance to lodging, shattering, and drought, making it reliable for cultivation in various climatic conditions, including severe Siberian regions. The yield of the «Kulundinsky 5» variety is high; under the conditions of the Altai Territory, it reaches an average of 16.7 centners per hectare. Seeds contain about 23.3% protein, as well as B and C vitamins, amino acids, potassium, calcium, and phosphorus, which gives them high nutritional value. However, the variety is susceptible to such diseases as ascochitosis and fusarium, so careful care and control of plant condition are required during cultivation. Chickpeas are a good cover crop that contributes to increasing soil fertility and can be used in crop rotation with a replanting interval of 3-4 years. In cooking, chickpeas are widely used for preparing various dishes: soups, sides, pies, desserts, and canned goods. Seeds after harvesting are dried and stored in a dry, well-ventilated room. The agrotechnology of growing the «Kulundinsky 5» variety is not complicated, does not require the mandatory use of herbicides, however, careful weed control is necessary. Due to its characteristics and nutritional value, this variety is an excellent choice for farmers and health-conscious consumers.
