Sigma

"SIGMA" variety – Sarepta mustard (Sinapis alba L.) is intended for seed production from which technical oil and meal with a high content of allyl oil are obtained. The plant is of medium height, 130-135 cm, with lower branches attached at a height of 25-30 cm from the base. The first branching is in the middle position, which ensures good stem structure and resistance to shattering.

Leaves are sessile, smooth, entire margins, weak dissection; inflorescences are racemose with elongated yellow petals. Pods are warty of medium length, beak medium, seeds yellow and small quantity. Time to maturity is early, vegetation period 75-78 days. Mass of 1000 seeds is about 4.1 g.

The variety is characterized by high yield - up to 9.7 t/h (under conditions of the Left Bank of the Saratov region) and high fat content in seeds (44.4%). In oil, erucic acid content is 2.76% and allyl oil 0.52%. "SIGMA" is resistant to powdery mildew, cruciferous stem rust, Alternaria, and has medium resistance to cruciferous blossom fly. Resistance to lodging and drought is rated 5 points, to shattering - 3 points.

For cultivation, the variety requires low-demanding soils, but a wide range of predecessors is allowed. Sowing is carried out simultaneously with early spring crops; mandatory treatment with an insecticidal preparation and sowing rate of 1.5-2.0 million viable seeds per hectare (8-11 kg). Sowing depth is 3-4 cm. Due to its characteristics, "SIGMA" is a reliable choice for technical oil and meal production with high allyl oil content.
